The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is co-organizing the Turin International Summer School - Europe, migration and inclusive growth: a focus on human capital, with the University of Turin, the University Institute of European Studies (IUSE), the European Training Foundation (ETF) and the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC-ILO).
The project has been launched thanks to the initiative of the European Regional Board (Consulta Regionale Europea) of the Piedmont Regional Council, in charge of fostering a better understanding of the European Union.
In the context of global economic crisis, migration flows and the resulting social developments, human capital becomes a key factor to foster growth and expand options for social inclusion. Human capital implies a unique value which should not be exploited but capitalized.
The capitalization of human capital requires sound policies and governance strategies to develop its potential for innovation, to attract immigrants who may contribute to enrich it and to turn it into a vehicle of social inclusion.
The summer school aims at providing participants with an overview of policies and legislative frameworks relevant to these themes, as well as with detailed case studies on their applications. It also proposes to be a forum for the elaboration and exchange of ideas on human capital-focused strategies to foster growth and tackle the problems connected to migration.
The ultimate goal is to develop a set of conceptual tools and practical skills which can help participants in both contributing to, and benefiting of, the potential of human capital in professional, academic, policy making and/or governmental environments.
