Fellows

UNICRI enrolls a limited number of senior fellows, junior fellows and national fellows in accordance with the criteria outlined below.

Senior Fellows

Senior fellows are well-qualified persons who have already established a distinguished career in the public, private, and/or non-governmental sector relevant to the mandate of the Institute.

Senior fellows must have previous working experience in or with the United Nations and other international or regional organizations.

Senior fellows are expected to provide advice and assistance in matters concerning the work programme of the Institute. To this end, they will be required to have expertise on issues connected with specific projects/programmes to be designed and/or implemented.

Junior Fellows

Junior fellows are persons with a post-graduate degree in criminal law, international law, criminology, or criminal justice who serve in the framework of UNICRI training programme.

Junior fellows preferably have previous experience in or with the United Nations and other international or regional organizations.

Junior fellows assist project officers in the implementation of the work programme of the Institute. To this end, they are required to have basic knowledge on issues connected with the specific projects/programmes to which they are assigned.

National Fellows

National fellows are well-qualified persons with an eminent position in their countries who assist the Institute by advising on its activities at regional, sub-regional and national levels and act as national focal points vis-vis their Governments.

National have already established a distinguished career in the public, private, and/or non-governmental sector relevant to the mandate of the Institute.

National fellows must have previous working experience in or with UNICRI's projects carried out in their countries or sub-regions or in or with relevant activities carried out by other United Nations entities and other international or regional organizations.

Procedures for the Appointment of UNICRI Fellows

Junior and Senior Fellows

In line with the established criteria, senior and junior fellows shall be appointed through the competitive process and in conjunction with vacancy announcements published at UNICRI web-site.

The fellows serve in a personal capacity and not as representatives of a Government or any other authority external to UNICRI.

The fellows are appointed on a full-time or part-time basis for varying periods of time (renewable), up to a maximum of 10.5 months in any 12-month period

The Institute assists fellows in obtaining the relevant clearances from the Host Country's authorities to allow fellows to live in Italy for the duration of their appointment to the Institute.

National Fellows

National fellows are appointed by an official letter after consultation with their Governments, as appropriate.

National fellows will accept to serve in a personal capacity and not as representatives of a Government or any other authority external to UNICRI.

National fellows serve at no cost for the Institute.

The fellows are appointed on a full-time or part-time basis for varying periods of time (renewable), up to a maximum of 10.5 months in any 12-month period.
