1. Entry requirements

The course is designed for university graduates in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Social Science and other relevant disciplines.

It is also addressed to young professionals working in governmental institutions, local authorities, international and non-governmental organizations seeking to deepen their understanding of current human rights issues.

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Hold a three-year university degree issued by an internationally recognized university in one of the aforementioned areas;
  • Have a very good working knowledge of English. Applications from students who expect to graduate at the end of the 2019/2020 academic year will also be considered.

2. How to apply

Standard Applicants

  • Application deadline: please complete and send the application form to unicri.courses@un.org by 1 July 2020.
  • Confirmation of acceptance: the results of the selection process will be communicated via e-mail, within 5 working days following receipt of the application, and no later than by 2 July 2020.
  • Payment deadline: full payment has to be finalized within 1 week following confirmation of acceptance, and no later than by 7 July 2020 (i.e. candidates should provide UNICRI with proof of payment via E-mail to unicri.courses@un.org).

Early Bird Applicants

  • Application deadline: please complete and send the application form to unicri.courses@un.org by 31 March 2020.

3. Applicants requiring a VISA (IMPORTANT)

Important for Applicants requiring a VISA Those applicants requiring a VISA are encouraged to apply in accordance with early bird deadlines.

Upon payment of the tuition fee, the UNICRI Administrative Office will provide enrolled participants with an acceptance letter. We encourage selected participants to immediately contact the nearest Italian Embassy/Consulate to obtain detailed information on the VISA procedure and documents needed. Please note that it is sole responsibility of the course participants to request and obtain the VISA.

4. Registration Fees

  • Standard applicants: 1,100 US Dollars
  • Early Bird and John Cabot University students and alumni applicants: 1,000 US Dollars

Registration fees do not cover additional expenses such as those related to travel, meals, accommodation and VISA.

5. Cancellation and Refunds

In the event of a participant cancellation for any reason, including VISA denial and health issues, registration fees will not be refunded.

6. Accommodation

Accommodation is available as follows:

Double/Triple room – 7-night accommodation at the John Cabot University's Lungara Apartments.

Students interested in booking accommodation at John Cabot University are kindly invited to fill-in the related section (Section G) in the application form within the deadlines hereunder. The UNICRI Administrative Office will assist students in all practical issues related to their staying in Rome.

Accommodation Fees: 250 Euro per person

Prices are intended for double/triple rooms in shared apartments. All costs shall be paid in advance upon registering online (further information on the registration process will be provided by the Organizers via email upon acceptance to the Summer Course).

Students interested in requesting accommodation at John Cabot University are kindly invited to fill-in the related section (Section G) in the application form, as the availability of rooms may vary depending on the number of requests received. The UNICRI Administrative Office will assist students in all practical issues related to their staying in Rome.

Accommodation Payment Deadline: 15 June 2020

Please note that refund of accommodation fees is granted only to those participants submitting this request to JCU Housing Office by 30 June 2020. In the event of a participant cancellation after 30 June 2020 for any reason, including VISA denial and health issues, accommodation fees will not be refunded.

Check-in and check-out:

• Check-in: Friday 10 July 2020 from 9.00am to 6.00pm • Check-out: Friday 17 July 2020 from 8.00am to 6.00pm

Check-in out of this time frames is not permitted. Check-in on Saturday and Sunday is not permitted. On an exceptional basis check-in on Saturday will be allowed only upon request and approval. Please do not purchase any flight/train ticket before receiving the approval of the Summer Course Administrative Office.

Check-out out of this time frames is not permitted, and there is no option to extend the stay at the end of the programme.

7. Certificate of participation

Upon attendance of all the lectures and completion of the course, participants will receive a United Nations and John Cabot University certificate of participation. A participant who misses one or more classes will not receive the certificate of participation. Absence grounded on serious reasons might be considered at discretion of the Organizers.
