50th Anniversary of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples
14 December 2010
On 29 June 2010, recognizing the crucial role of the Declaration to the expansion of the United Nations membership, the UN General Assembly decided to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of resolution 1514 (1960), which contains the landmark document. The commemoration on 14 December 2010 invite a renewed commitment to decolonization and emphasize that all Member States must ensure that all Non-Self-Governing Territories could exercise the right to self-determination and remove the scourge of colonialism.
