The Outreach Programme of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia has released a new feature on the prosecution of the crimes of sexual violence.
The feature describes the enormous contribution the Tribunal made to the prosecution and adjudication of crimes of this nature.
Following the lead of its sister tribunal for Rwanda, the Tribunal was among the first courts of its kind to bring explicit charges of wartime sexual violence, and to define gender crimes such as rape and sexual enslavement under customary law.
