UNICRI, together with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) , will present a joint project - Supporting the Transfer of Knowledge and Materials of War Crimes Cases from the ICTY to National Jurisdictions - during the Twentieth Session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
This 4-million euro War Crime Justice Project, funded by the European Union is being jointly implemented by ICTY, OSCE/ODIHR and UNICRI, with the support of the OSCE field operations in the region. The overall aim of the project is to assist national jurisdictions in strengthening their capacities to handle war crimes cases in an effective and fair manner, consistent with the highest international standards of due process. To this end, the project supports effective transfer of knowledge and material from the ICTY to the national judicial systems in the region.
