UNICRI signs an agreement with the Kennedy University of Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires, 27 August 2013. A new Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Criminal Law and Justice will be organized in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2014 within the framework of the agreement that was signed between UNICRI and the Kennedy University on 27 August, 2013 at the Kennedy University.
The initiative which included the signature of the agreement, was launched with a formal event, attended by Dr. Maria Elisa Herren, Rector of the Kennedy University; Ms. Giuseppina Maddaluno, Head of Training and Advanced Education Unit of UNICRI; Dr. Pedro David, Member of the UNICRI Board of Trustees; and Prof. Fausto Pocar, Judge and former President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
The LL.M. represents a new and advanced post-graduate training activity that caters to the needs of Latin American countries. It is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge of international criminal law and enable them to help counter international and transnational crimes more effectively.
Since 2006 the Institute has run a Master of Laws (LL.M.) program in International Crime and Justice in Turin, Italy, and has thus gained extensive expertise in this particular area. Several projects have been implemented with the aim of analyzing and transferring knowledge acquired by international criminal tribunals to national jurisdictions, thereby facilitating the prosecution of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
Designed for Latin American post-graduate students interested in deepening their knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of legal instruments, the LL.M. will expose them to tools for prevention and punishment of international and transnational crimes such as war crimes, crimes against humanity, organized crime and terrorism. It will also gain from UNICRI’s unique experience developed by cooperating with key national, regional and international organizations in the area of international criminal law and justice. Information regarding the new LL.M. program will be available in 2014.
