Addressing the multifaceted problem of falsified medicines
A Conference in Geneva to discuss innovative and integrated approaches
Geneva, 31 March 2014. A Conference on falsified medicines has been organized by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) at the Room XII of the Palais des Nations.
The Conference will highlight the different approaches of United Nations Organizations and Specialized Agencies as well as those of the private sector. The Conference will focus on the dangers caused by falsified medicines and on the significant role played by organized crime. In addition, the public health consequences of falsified medicines and the importance of establishing a multi-sectoral strategy to combat their diffusion will be central aspects of the debate.
Paving the way for increasingly complementary strategies and approaches, representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and UNICRI will present their programmes and objectives, while speakers from AstraZeneca and Hoffman La Roche will illustrate the strategies that private companies are implementing to counter the distribution of falsified medicines. A specific part of the event will be dedicated to anti-counterfeiting technologies. Speakers from the following companies will present the latest developments in their strategies: NANO 4 U, Heliotis and SICPA.
The conference is being organized within the framework of the SAVEmed project, funded by the European Union under the Seventh Framework Programme.
