Turin, 6 May 2014. The Opening Ceremony of the International Criminal Law Defence Seminar was held on Tuesday, 6 May 2014 at the Foundation of the Turin Bar Association (Fondazione dell’Avvocatura Torinese Fulvio Croce) in Turin.
The 4-day Seminar is organized by UNICRI in co-operation with the Office of Public Counsel for the Defence of the International Criminal Court (OPCD-ICC) and the International Association of Lawyers (UIA). The Seminar is supported by the Turin Bar Association and by CRT Foundation (Fondazione CRT).
The Seminar aims at deepening understanding of defence in the area of international criminal law. Thanks to the participation of renowned experts, practicing before the International Criminal Court and ad-hoc UN tribunals, who are conducting the training. the Seminar represents a learning platform for over 67 participants coming from more than 30 countries. The participants are young lawyers practicing law before national or international courts and professionals from organizations involved in this area.
The opening ceremony was attended, by Ms. Giuseppina Maddaluno, Head of the Training and Advanced Education Unit of UNICRI; Prof. Edoardo Greppi Director of the LL.M. in International Crime and Justice organized by UNICRI in association with the University of Turin; Mr. Mario Napoli, President of the Turin Bar Association; Mr. Martin Pradel, Co-Director of the UIA program on Human Rights and Protection of Lawyers, and Ms. Julie Goffin, Coordinator of the said program. Lecturers included Ms. Marie o’Leary from, the OPCD-ICC, along with Ms. Colleen Rohan, Criminal Defence Attorney, practicing before international tribunals and President of the Association of Defence Counsel Practicing before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
