2015 World Day against Trafficking in Persons
A message by the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT)

30 July 2015. On the occasion of the second annual World Day against Trafficking in Persons, the Principals of eight of the world’s key organizations working to tackle this crime have come together to issue a special statement.

In the joint statement, UNICRI Director Cindy Smith urges for a combined effort to combat one of the world’s most shameful crimes that affects the lives of millions of people around the world, robbing them of their dignity: “Trafficked persons do not enjoy the benefits of social and economic development because they are exploited by ever-changing criminal networks operating across regions, taking advantage of the absence of rule of law, and using roots in and across the weakest countries in each region. United we can stop the criminal organizations and the displacement of crime.”
