Opening Ceremony of the Master of Laws in International Crime and Justice

Turin, 3 February 2014. The Opening Ceremony of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Crime and Justice was held on Monday 3 February 2014 at the Palazzo del Rettorato of the University of Turin.

The Master, jointly organized by UNICRI and the Department of Law of the University of Turin, offers a unique insight in international criminal law, its implementation and the activities of international organizations and tribunals operating in this area. The LL.M. also aims to provide an in-depth knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of international instruments and tools for the prevention and punishment of international and transnational crimes such as war crimes, crimes against humanity, organized crime and terrorism.

The Master takes place at the United Nations Campus in Turin and is attended by 46 participants from 30 countries and the 5 continents.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Turin, Piero Fassino; the Rector of the University of Turin, Gianmaria Ajani; the Director of the Master, Edoardo Greppi; the Director of UNICRI, Jonathan Lucas; the Director of the Italian Army Post Conflict Operations Study Centre, Stefano Petrassi; the Coordinator of the teaching programme, Roberto Rivello; the Director of the University of Turin Centre for the IT Services, Cristina Spadaro, and the Head of the Research and Education Department of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, Luigi Somenzari.

During the opening Judge Fausto Pocar, former President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, delivered the Lectio Magistralis on "The Present and Future of International Criminal Justice".
