Counterfeiting and agri-food frauds are illicit activities in constant growth, representing threats to consumers’ health and safety. In addition, they undermine products’ reputation and compromise the development of the agri-food industry. The involvement of transnational organized crime in counterfeiting requires the establishment of joint strategies and the development of shared policies at both national and international level to prevent and counter these phenomena.
The Directorate-General for the Fight against Counterfeiting - Italian Patent and Trademark Office (DGLC-UIBM) of the Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) are pleased to invite you to the conference on counterfeiting in the agri-food sector in the Euro-Mediterranean area, which will be held on October 27that the EXPO Conference Centre.
Building on the principle of cooperation embodied in the “Declaration of Rome to strengthen the fight against counterfeiting” - signed during the third Euro Mediterranean Meeting of National Committees against counterfeiting - the seminar will be an opportunity to examine this crucial topic for citizens and producers, as well as to share good practices among the countries in the Euro-Mediterranean area.
The event will also represent an important occasion to showcase and discuss the findings of the new MiSE-UNICRI study: a compared analysis of the legislative measures to tackle counterfeiting adopted in the Euro-Mediterranean area – with specific reference to the agri-food sector – and illustrate projects and international practices to fight against counterfeiting in the industry.
The meeting will be attended by representatives from governments, international organizations and the private sector.
Due to the limited number of seats available, we would be grateful if you could register by October 25th. For more information and for the accreditation, please contact Andrea Lacroce at: +41 22 91 75995 or: lacroceunicri.it
