Tackling hate crime and hate speech

UNICRI presents its report at the Italian Parliament's Committee on xenophobia, racism and hate crime

Rome, Italy, 29 March 2017. Today, the United Nations Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) has been invited at the Jo Cox Committee in Rome to present its work and discuss good practices in preventing and countering discrimination against vulnerable groups, with a special focus on hate crime and online hate speech.

The Jo Cox Committee was set up in 2016 by the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Ms. Laura Boldrini, to counter xenophobia, racism and hate crime with the support of Italian government deputies, representatives of international organizations, research institutes and renowned experts.

UNICRI, in coordination with several international, national and regional actors, has implemented various actions to tackle hate speech and hate crime. During the Committee meeting, the Institute shared the results of its multidisciplinary approach to prevent, inhibit and reduce the impact of these crime.
